Academy of Art University is a private art school in San Francisco California. It was founded in 1929 and has about 300 full-time teachers and around 1,300 students. It is one of the largest art and design schools in the country. Alumni from the school have gone on off to do great things in life. A few have gone on to be a part in the creation of Oscar winning films such as Moana and Star Trek Beyond.
The school held its 21st runway in a row with New York Fashion in September. The runway was held at Skylight Clarkson Square, which is a pretty big deal in the fashion industry. Ten graduates debuted a clothing piece during the runway. A few of them included, Hailun Zhou, who used vinyl and PVC along with her own fabrics to make dresses. Next, there was Eden Slezin who created an outfit using Cone denim and recycled rubber bike tubes. His inspiration came from his own reflection on his life in the Bay area. Additionally, there was Dina Marie Lam, who created an outfit with the inspiration from the passing of her Aunt. Using soft materials, she hoped to invoke the look and feeling of comfort and warmth. Cana Klebanoff out of Queens, New York, used a Japanese Samuri inspiration to create a wearable fit that envoked pride and strength. Finally, there was Jelly Shan from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China who wanted to focus on the qualities of peace and joy. She used a fabric color manipulation technique to envoke a girly feel within her outfit.
Through watching a runway of the such, one can truly see the power of diversity and experience in different areas of life. They are all so different, yet so alike. Also resembled within the clothing is the long and hard hours of work that have been put in. These people put a lot of effort into this, and Academy of Art University did an amazing job with the Runway.
