Jeff Herman posts blog on Statute fight in New York

Who knows how long it can take an individual to recover from the trauma of a sexual assault carried against them? According to the state of New York, a person has within five years to press charges for this offense, and then be forced to relive the event in the court proceedings. And that does not include members of a major organization either. These organizations can include schools and churches, which both have a history with offense of a sexual nature. However, this statute may not survive the decade. Millions of New Yorkers have banded under the combined leadership of Corey Feldman and Sarah Powers-Barnhard to overturn this rule and demand the passing of the Child Victims Act, a bill that will erase the statute from New York law, allowing for an indefinite time for victims to press charges. Corey Feldman is an actor from the 80s, starring in major hits such as The Goonies and Gremlins, turned activist at the turn of the century. Sarah Powers-Barnhard is a US volleyball, who was assaulted and allegedly raped by her coach along with several dozen of her teammates. Feldman states that “When it comes to childhood abuse, there is no way to get that light back,” believing wholeheartedly that there should be no way back after a person commits such a heinous crime.
All this information recently appeared on a blog post on the website of Herman Law Firm. Jeff Herman, the founder and owner of the firm has been an advocate for victims of sexual abuse for a very long time now, having helped thousands over the years. He has acted as an advisor to victims and also served as a trial lawyer. Herman has shown specific skill in helping with cases involving children, and has become known as a phenomenal helper for the children and parents of the victims in getting through a crisis such as this crime.
With the backing of the “New Yorkers Against Hidden Predators” coalition, this movement of reformers may see significant results as the only party that stands in opposition to the bill are republican senators who vote on the senate floor.
